Policy and Research
Tiyende Pamodzi against poverty employs research to inform its policy analysis. A number of policies related to poverty reduction are analysed through research to ascertain their effectiveness. The analysis is then used as basis for advocacy work. Tiyende Pamodzi being a national umbrella body on MDGs uses the input of member organisations in conducting proposed policy analysis and research. Tiyende Pamodzi highly depends on hired experts to conduct research.
Through the effective implementation of this strategy:
- A number of policies are analysed.
- Research is conducted and results published.
- A number of advocacy issues emanate from the research conducted.
- A number of advocacy campaigns are conducted based on the raised issues.
All these feed into the development of policies that are pro-poor and help address various poverty situations and social service problems.
Media and Communication
This programme aims to strengthen and expand partnerships, networks and collaborations with other actors. Through media and communication, the camapign continues to cooperate with organisations at the national, regional and international levels, whose mandate and objectives are similar to Tiyende Pamodzi.
Tiyende Pamodzi recognises that effective advocacy requires use of various means of communication. Under this department Tiyende Pamodzi uses the media as a means of communication in its advocacy work. As such, a number of community radio and television programs are aired on the MDGs and other poverty reduction programs. Brochures and leaflets are produced and networks are formed around issues on the MDGs as well as initiating forums as platforms for coalition members to discuss and debate.
Mobilisation and Outreach

It is a programme that engages citizens at grass root level to participate in the MDG campaign and put pressure on their leaders to meet the set targets by the stated timeframe. Beyond awareness creation, we would like to motivate citizens to take action. Citizen participation is a major component of advocating for poverty eradication and attainment of the MDGs. The campaign has employed a deliberate strategy of working with mass movements like trade unions, faith based organisations, women as well as the youth.
Through this strategy, Tiyende Pamodzi initiates innovative ways of mobilising citizens, CBOs, FBOs and NGOs in the fight for the achievement of the MDGs.
